The Deconstruction of Umineko – EP1 – Hideyoshi’s general involvement

Introducing “Deconstruction of Umineko” by EP which is basically entries where I’ll point out or try to make better sense of certain parts in each EP as I replay them. Right now I’m replaying Legend of the Golden Witch and I’ll report whatever I found strange, doesn’t click right or how some of these scenes may tie back to other EPS or scenes in the mystery. This Deconstruction of Umineko allows the readers to be able to follow reasoning in a more orderly fashion by EPs for those that wish for that. These entries are examples of quick reasoning which focus in certain scenes in order rather large events. We’ll deal with more complicated parts of this EP as I go along. Other future entries will deal with other EPSs following no specific order by topics that have already been selected or topics being requested as I mentioned before.

This is another of the how nicely “everything ties back” (which you’ll see plenty) in the story. This scene isn’t that crucial but it is nice to see how the mystery fits so well with other past (in this case future) EPs as you will see in some of these entries. The purpose (if you want to call it that) is to demonstrate how very consistent the author is with this mystery and how well implemented each EP is.

Hideyoshi is a guy that doesn’t get that much involvement in the story. We see him act friendly and act as the “nice guy” but even in the scenes he gets I don’t particularly see him as a crucial character, for those reasons his actions don’t always seem relevant.

I didn’t think much of this scene back when I was reading the novel or watching the anime but it is starting to make sense why Hideyoshi was so “confrontational” or “so prepared” back then when they were discussing Krauss’ position, the money they wanted to extort from him and hinting that Kinzo might be dead.

Hideyoshi spends a fair amount of time claiming how he investigated Krauss’s financial situation/etc and that he found that no one has lent any money to Krauss therefore it was very suspicious. This scene reminded me that this was because he already had doubts about Kinzo being still alive in the first place that lead him to act this way. As EP5 mentions he was the first who realized that Kinzo was dead, though I still think that Kyrie thought of it first but it was just Hideyoshi who shared it first with his wife leading to all siblings to band together against the “tyrant” of their brother.

So what does this simple scene tell us? That R07 in EP5 used that scene where Hideyoshi doubted that Kinzo was dead  and connected it to EP1 in which thanks to Hideyoshi the siblings investigated further whether what Hideyoshi suspected could be true or not by checking Krauss’ financial situation since embezzlement = Krauss in a bad position and embezzlement = possibly Kinzo being dead, hence something is up.

This easily explains why the siblings were so “ready” in EP1 and how Hideyoshi who was the first who believe that Krauss, who was keeping secrets from them, felt that it was a good opportunity to use this to put pressure on Krauss and get him to cooperate. Of course, they didn’t know that Krauss already got some dirt on all siblings including Hideyoshi himself.

Oh god, I haven’t played the Umineko games in a while now. And school’s been tough. It’ll be hard to keep reading all this. I’ll try to read all your posts since they’re very useful, but I can’t promise you I’ll post or get into a discussion about a certain topic 😛

Still, congrats on the new blog and thanks for doing all this.

Just wondering, why are posts like Blogging Umineko Chiru EP 5 – #33 – Let the Court of Illusions begin! Burn the Witch Beatrice the Golden locked from comments? I’d love to comment on that post.

“How, why would the killer leave Genji’s body like that instead of hiding it? Wouldn’t you hide it in case someone entered the room?” – Maybe the killer knew Eva was working with Erika and that she would not open the door, only seal it. It’s a tough one, I agree.

Ah that. Don’t worry about those. Since they’re already posted in JaP you can always comment there. I posted them here for everyone to see in case they don’t remember certain parts of the story. That’s all.

For now I’ll be focusing in getting this game board going (and traffic) by posting as regularly as I can. The comments will be always be opened so you can always pick them up later. Also I know that there are always more lurkers than commenters in blogs anyway 😀

Interesting catch… never linked those 2 incidents that much. This idea that he came to the island with this theory in mind (due to being a clever and investigative business man) but had totally different effects on the development of the siblings struggle and the murders in different episodes….. it makes him seem like a much more important character then the mentioned superficial image of the uninvolved nice guy bystander with comes across most of the time.

Perhaps in the end he is one of the big wild cards of this setup which takes the story take so diverse directions. Perhaps he only sometimes become a important cog in the machinery of fate fueled by butterfly effect – that is this island – … even without those strong intentions. 😀
